The problem statement that we focused on was the struggles an individual with dementia face would face at home while their caretakers are away.
Our primary objective is to inform the support-individuals and caretakers with a list of the specific actions/tasks that their loved one was struggling with when they were home alone. Our secondary objective is to extend the independence of those diagnosed with dementia, by ensuring that they are able to complete their daily activities without having to rely heavily on others.
Our 24/7 Artificial Smart Assistant, Lahni, successfully fulfils both of these objectives. By using any smart device, Lahni is able to provide assistance to individuals for activities such as creating a favorite dish, calling emergency contact, or even remembering how to perform a particular task. Moreover, over time Lani will be able identify the specific needs of the individual and will be able to tailor her services to best serve them.
The complementary webportal, Lahni-Online, is able to highlight the actions which the individual with dementia struggled with, in an easy to understand, interactive graphical format. The statistical analysis that is provided by this portal will allow supporting individuals to identify pattern/trends that are occurring and are find simple solutions to address them. Supporting individuals will also have the freedom to post custom made instructions for tasks in the form of pictures, audio, and video in order to fully accommodate to the needs of those with dementia.
The future we are planning for Lahni is to have her be compatible with any popular IOT home devices. This way, she will be able to assist individuals without the need for them to be always carrying their phones.
